Harvesting

The weather here has heated up to not such great growing conditions for tender carrots and beets. So...we harvested our baby root vegetables, and had a very small portion for dinner one night last week. I thought Ella could get over her fear of dirty hands to see what magically grew beneath those green leaves we've been diligently watering...but, she had other plans, as two year-olds often do. She tried one carrot, looked down at the soil on her fingers and said, "No Mommy. I can't do it. It is too dirty." She then ran inside, pushed her chair to the sink and washed her hands. She did, however, timidly help me to rinse the dirt off the carrots in a bowl of water.
